Today was sooooo awesome - I got to sit in the Supreme Court courtroom and listen to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg give a talk. She started by talking about what she feels is one of the most important court cases in our history, Loving v. Virginia; it fundamentally changed our nation by striking down Virginia's law that prohibited interracial marriages. After that, she took questions. It was interesting to hear what she thought of the Constitution, too. She believes (as do I) that it should be a living document that accommodates the needs of the current generations. She also discussed how collegial the Court was (as far as a work place) and discussed how the other Justices had helped her through two bouts of cancer and the recent death of her husband. She recommended that we all read the biography of John Marshall by John Edward Smith. It's rare to see such a well-spoken, intelligent, and dignified woman.

The inside of the Supreme Court building is worth mentioning too - you should go if you ever get the chance! It certainly rivals all of the other government buildings. You feel humbled almost as soon as you walk in the door.
